LEAP Academy

At Hunter Sports High School, we recognise that every student has the capacity to lead. We provide diverse opportunities for all students to graduate with attributes that harness their passions and strengths, and inspire lifelong learning. Success in leadership is achieved when students become active and self-aware school citizens, who take a personalised leadership and educational pathway to maximise both their own individual success, and the success of the wider school community.

Our L.E.A.P (leadership, empowerment, action, pathways) Academy is our general leadership team, who are involved in bridging the gap between staff and students, and ensuring all members of our school have a voice, and are agents for transformation and positive change.

Our official leadership body is made up of Junior School Captains (elected from our Year 9 cohort by students in Years 7–9) and Senior School Captains (elected from our Year 12 cohort by our entire school community). These students represent Hunter Sports High School in an official capacity, and are recognised as the formal leaders within our school.

Student leadership at Hunter Sports High School is categorised into three levels – Personal Leadership (Level 1), Action in Leadership (Level 2) and Distinction in Leadership (Level 3). As students become involved in a range of leadership opportunities, both at school and in their wider community, they are able to document their accomplishments and move through these levels using the Student Leadership Passports. Student success at each level results in formal recognition at presentation assemblies, and with support from staff and peers, culminates in every student of the school being offered the opportunity to attain the highest level, Distinction in Leadership.
