Electronic Devices Policy

It may be appropriate for some students who travel long distances to carry a phone, iPod or other electronic device for use while en route to and from school.

All other electronic devices including pagers, cameras, CD/DVD players, recording or listening devices are not to be used inside school grounds in any circumstance, other than when these technologies are being correctly used in a programmed lesson. In the case of school photo, video or recording sessions, parents would be notified in advance and given the opportunity to not have their child included if they so wish.

This policy and the following rules reflect the legal conditions set out by the NSW DET in the Privacy Bulletin - No. 7 (October 2003) and the Legal Issues Bulletin - No. 35 (February 2005).

Cameras and Video Cameras:

No videos or photos may be made or taken before, during or after school while the student is on the school grounds. It is illegal to film or photograph a person without their consent.

Tape Recorders and Other Listening Devices:

No recording of any person's conversation may be made before, during or after school while the student is on the school grounds. It is illegal to record, electronically listen to or publish a record of a person's private conversation without their consent.

Other Electronic Technologies:

The use of other electronic devices is prohibited before, during or after school while the student is on the school grounds. This includes devices that:

  • Disrupt or are likely to disrupt the learning environment or interfere with the operation of the school, or;
  • Threaten or are likely to threaten the safety or wellbeing of any person, or;
  • Are in breach of any law

Violation of these rules will result in the school discipline policy being followed.
