Sportsperson of the Month

Each month one of our talented young athletes is recognised for their achievements as our Sportsperson of the Month. The monthly winners are announced at our end of term formal assemblies and will be added to this page as awarded. At the end of each year one of the monthly award winners is announced as our Sportsperson of the Year at our annual Talented Sports Program Awards Night. 

The awards are sponsored this year by Body Sciencewho will provide gift vouchers to our monthly winners and a major prize for the eventual Sportsperson of the Year. Thanks to Body Science (BSc) for their generous support of our students and our school. 

JANUARY 2019: Luis Bardetta (Year 8)

Luis is a member of Hunter Sports High's Football program. Identified as the star goalkeeper at the National Futsal Championships while representing  Northern NSW in the Christmas holidays, Luis was selected in the Under 14 Australian All Star Futsal squad to tour the United Kingdom in October this year. Congratulations Luis!   

FEBRUARY & MARCH 2019: Kirsty Fenton & Ruby Jones

Kirsty & Ruby were announced together for the February and March Sports person of the Month awards as they represented in the same Australian team! Both in the football program, Kirsty and Ruby represented the Australian Under 16 Mini Matildas at the Asian Cup qualifiers where they played against Iran, Vietnam and Laos. After a clean sweep in all three games the team qualified for the Asian Cup to be held in Thailand in September and we wish the girls all the best of luck for selection!

APRIL 2019: Alyssa Hogan (Year 7)

Alyssa is a member of our TSP Football Program. She was identified and selected in the Northern NSW School Girls Under 13 futsal team that competed in the National Titles and was also selected in the Under 13 Australian futsal team that toured Spain in May. Congratulations Alyssa!

MAY: Hannah Jarvis (Year 7)

Hannah is a distance runner in the TSP Athletics Program. She won the 400m, 800m, 1500m and 3000m distance events at the school carnival earlier this term as well as the 1500m State Little Athletics event and took out first place in the Hunter Region Cross Country carnival. Hannah also represented NSW at the Australian Championships earlier this year where she finished 4th in the 1500m and 5th in the 800m. Congratulations Hannah!

JUNE 2019: Boston Kerapa (Year 12)

Boston, a member of the TSP Rugby Union Program, is playing 1st Grade in the Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union competition and has been selected in several school representative teams in 2019. So far this year he has been selected in the Hunter CHS team that came second at the CHS State titles, as well as the NSW CHS 1st XV squad that toured South Africa in the last school holidays. Last week Boston was selected in the NSW All Schools Rugby Union team. Congratulations Boston!

JULY: Mona Walker (Year 10)    

Mona, a member of the Hunter Sports High Football program, is a New Zealand citizen and was selected in the NZ Under 17 Women’s National Football team. In July she travelled to China for a tournament where she competed against the national Under 17 teams of Chile, China and Thailand where they recorded two wins and a loss. She earnt the Player of the Match award in the game against China and went into camp with the NZ team again at the end of September. Congratulations Mona!

AUGUST: Lainee Harrison (Year 8)

After major surgery last year and seven months of rehab, Lainee started competing in athletics events again in January this year. From January to March she competed in the NSW Country Championships, NSW Junior Championships, NSW Opens Championships and NSW Little Athletics Championships in the 100m sprint, 200m sprint and Long Jump events. At each championship and in each event she posted a new PB along the way - an outstanding effort. Even more outstanding is that her PBs in each event have also broken the previous Australian Under 16 T37 records so she is now a three-time Australian record holder. Congratulations Lainee!

SEPTEMBER: Evan Kilminster (Year 11)

A member of our Basketball TSP program, Evan was recently selected in the Australian Under 17 Basketball Team. This follows a successful year for Evan who has also been a member of the Newcastle Hunters Under 18 Mens team, a member of the NSW National Performance Program (NPP) and a member of the NSW Under 18 Mens Team. Congratulations Evan!

OCTOBER: Jai Smith-Hayes (Year 12)

Currently completing his HSC, Jai is a member of our Basketball Program and has had a big year in his final year at Hunter Sports High. This year he has been selected in the Hunter Region, NSW CHS and NSW All Schools representative basketball teams as a power forward/centre. He has also been a member of the Newcastle Hunters Division 1 Youth & Men's teams. Congratulations Jai! 

NOVEMBER: Fossie Bradford (Year 12)

In a big year this year for Fossie, the HSHS rugby squad member has represented the Hunter Region, Newcastle U18 Wildfires, the NSW Country U18's who toured Canada, as well as the full NSW Under 18's team. Congratulations Fossie! 

DECEMBER: Keegan Hughes (Year 11) 

A valued member of the HSHS Football program, Keegan has been selected in the Hunter Region and NSW CHS football teams this year. He is also a member of the Newcastle Jets Youth team and a regular train-on member of the Jets 1st team squad.  Congratulations Keegan!
