Congratulations to Year 9 Big Picture student Chelsea Palmer who was awarded a $20,000 scholarship at the Public Education Foundation's annual Proudly Public Awards Ceremony held at Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday 15 May.
The Harding Miller scholarship provides practical support to girls who have high academic potential and are experiencing hardship. The scholarships lift the educational outcomes and career aspirations of high school girls in public schools across Australia.
Congratulations to Chelsea on this outstanding achievement. She is a hard-working and deserving student who will no doubt continue to maximise her potential with this financial support. Chelsea was nominated for the scholarship by Hunter Sports High's Youth Worker Keira and Big Picture Advisor Mr Staley whose support and encouragement have had a huge impact on Chelsea.
Chelsea has already received a new computer to help with her studies and will soon commence tutoring in English, maths and science. The scholarship will also help with her travel costs to and from school as well as some new uniform items. Along with her Big Picture classmates, Chelsea will be heading to Newcastle Uni later this term to check out the Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) Building, an excursion brought about by her interest in technology and gaming that will allow her to explore potential university pathways for her future study. Chelsea will report back to the scholarship providers to let them know how she's using her funds, planning for her future, and the extremely positive impact it has already had on her education.
