Catching public transport
The School Opal card gives eligable students free or discounted travel between home and school using metro, train, bus, ferry and light rail services.
- Any student living outside the 2km radius of Hunter Sports High School can apply for a School Opal Card.
- Apply online at apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts
- Those inside the 2km radius can use public transport using a 'Child' Opal Card.
- For more information about timetables and routes visit: newcastletransport.info/plan-your-trip/school-services then type Hunter Sports High School into the search field and select bus route to download the current PDF timetable. If you have any questions or need help contact Newcastle Transport on 131 500 or use the customer portal on the above website.
- Don't forget to tap on and off with your school Opal Card. This provides Newcastle Transport with important data to determine bus services to our school.

Driving and parking
The start and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
When driving and parking near our school, please:
- ensure you park safely in school zones
- follow speed signs
- do not make U-turns or 3-point turns outside the school.
