Sports Academy Application

Our academies are highly competitive with limited places. Placement in the Sports Academy is dependent on a student meeting ALL of the following criteria, along with there being an availability of places in the student’s particular year group:

• Demonstrated talent and skill in their chosen sport

• Expected to meet required minimum fitness benchmarks (for Year 7 trials only) as below:

  20m SPRINT: 3.8 seconds and under

  VERTICAL JUMP: 20cm and above (hands on hips)

  BEEP TEST: Level 6 and above

• Capacity to be self-directed and self-regulated

• Ability to work well with a partner and in teams

• Positive attitude to their school studies and education, including attendance

Once enrolled and attending, continuation in the Sports Academy is dependent on a student demonstrating:

• Continued development and improvement in the nominated sport
• Meeting required levels of attendance
• Payment of Sports Academy program costs
• Adherence to Hunter Sports High School's Code of Conduct & Student Agreement

Please note, there are a limited number of positions available in our Sporting Academy Programs

School Assessment Form Download- You must get this form completed by your student's current school and either upload to the google form application, or alternatively, the school may choose to email the form directly to Hunter Sports High if preferred at hunterspt-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au

The trial fee of $40 (non-refundable) must be paid online. A payment link will be emailed within a week after submitting the online application (during school term dates).

Please note: The payment link will be sent to the parent email address registered on your child's Sports Academy online application.

• Year 7, 2027 intake (Current Year 6 Students): Applications open 10 February 2026 and close 24 April 2026. Trials will be held 11 May - 22 May 2026.

  Phase 5	Academic Testing (only for students offered a position)	30 July 2026 (if applying for Enrichment Academy placement) 28 October 2026 (for students who do not apply for Enrichment Academy)

• Year 8 -11, 2027 intake (Current Year 7-10 students): Applications open 25 May 2026 and close 24 July 2026. Trials will be held 5 August 2026.

• NOTE: Trials will be conducted on an invitation only basis dependent on program vacancies and year group enrolment availability, via an ‘Expression of Interest’ process.

Only students who have completed the online application, submitted all supporting documentation and paid their trial fee will be able to attend trial.
